Thank you, Technology!
Early in the 50’s there were just four television networks in the US. And just like broadband canopy antennas on our roofs, the television antennas then only receive signals through line of sight too. And since the Earth is not flat, it eventually breaks the signal’s line of sight. It was an ordeal for the people living in the remote mountainous areas most especially to be putting antennas on hills and running long, long, long cables to their houses just to get a reception for them to be able to watch their favorite programs. The closer they get to the source, the better their TV signals otherwise it gets distorted. Imagine if the reception gets really bad, they still have to go back to the hills where they placed their antennas and fix it from there. The exercise is sure good for the physical body but the torment and torture of doing that often is both mentally and emotionally exhausting! These are the limitations of a broadcast TV.
Thank God that I started as a cable TV baby already! I remember that when I was a child and our TV was still black and white, I was not really used to watching at that time. I would pore over really interesting books and listen to soothing music than watch TV. So I wasn’t really affected with my elder brothers cussing over the inferior reception of the broadcast TV. By the time that I got hooked on soaps, cable TV was already born. And I’m just so glad that this technology was invented. I will not go into the intricate details on how the cable TV works because it’s too grueling to discuss, for me that is. But then if you are bogged by the hanging question of how those areas that cable technology cannot reach still able to watch TV, the answer to that is Direct TV.
DirectTV or Satellite TV is a wireless system for delivering television programming directly to a viewer’s house by the use of a satellite dish. And since satellites are suspended on air, it can cover more consumers in its line of sight. This is the best solution to areas that cannot be serviced by terrestrial or cable providers. Before only a few people can afford to buy exorbitant and enormous satellite dishes, today there are more affordable and compact satellite dishes to choose from. I should know because I got one sitting freely in the comforts of my home. With the continuous evolution of technology, Directv is already within our arm’s reach. And for that I thank you, Technology.
