A Chronicler's Life

A Woman I Admire

On my previous post, I’ve mentioned that many of my colleagues have transferred to different departments already and one of them is my very good friend and confidante Michi Gail. I can’t remember exactly the year when we started to become friends but I can never forget the beautiful kind of friendship that we have until now.

Many years ago I met an amiable, good-looking and statuesque woman. She was always wearing a radiant smile on her face as if she doesn’t have a care in the world. Little did I know that she was rather carrying a heavy load on her shoulders. She’s a single mom and caring for a daughter with special needs is a very difficult task to fulfill alone but she’s able to pull herself through with flying colors. Michi as I fondly call her is a very optimistic person. It’s very seldom that you hear her say anything bad about anyone. To her if you can’t say something nice then don’t say nothing at all. She’s not only brave but very strong willed too and there’s nothing that you can say or do to stop her from attaining whatever she sets her mind to achieve. That’s the reason why she won my admiration. Her great qualities don’t end there; she’s a great listener also. Sometimes when words are not needed, she’s there just to let you know that she won’t let you wallow in misery on your own. Life wasn’t easy for her but she did not blame the world for that. She chose to see life differently, the beautiful side of life. That it’s not all about sorrow and sufferings, that you can find happiness in everything when you choose to. She sees pleasant things in unpleasant happenings. She made experience her teacher and from what I see in what she has become, she must be a very good learner.

Michi is almost always willing to lend a helping hand. You don’t even have to ask for it because she’ll gladly do it for you without any qualms. She loves her friends like her own flesh and blood. We may not come from the same genes but her being a friend to me made us even more than sisters. Other sisters fight but we never did. Sometimes sisters don’t communicate well with their siblings but Michi and I always do. She may not tell me all the secret desires of her heart but I already know it. I know that she still prays to have a family of her own, a good and loving husband (this time) who would accept and love her flaws and everything. I know that she wishes to give Yuri, her only daughter a bright future. I know that she hopes to have not just a house but a happy home where they will build and share all their wonderful dreams as one family. And I pray, wish and hope that she’ll have all of that and more. Because if there’s one person in this world who deserves to be happy, that’s Michi.

“Michi,

If you are reading this what I really would like to say to you is that I’ll be missing you so badly but I will be praying with all of my heart that you’ll obtain success that’s been elusive to you (to us) for so many years in this new journey that you’re about to embark. After eight years of being in your comfort zone I know that you are scared out of your wits to finally not just step out of the line but to leave your place of comfort totally. That’s okay; I’ll feel that way too if I was in your place, maybe not as brave and courageous as you are now but I know that I will be able to do it. You know why? It’s because I know that no matter what happens you’ll always be there for me and say “Hey, don’t be afraid I got your back.” You’ll always be my source of inspiration whenever I’ll start to feel weak and unsure of myself. Knowing that there’s this one person who in spite and despite of all the ugly things that the world has thrown at her is still bold enough to say “Bring it on!” Thank you sis for everything. Thank you for always being present in the most significant occasions of my life. And I don’t only expect to see you on your goddaughter’s first birthday but also on all her other birthdays and mine. And when life starts to scare me with the terrifying things brought about by aging, I expect you to still hold my hand, all wrinkly and bony by that time and say “I’m here now. There’s nothing to be frightened about.” I love you sis and I wish you luck, though I’m confident that you don’t really need it. Here are some of our pictures through the years.
