Car seat

What is the importance of a car seat? My friend told me that in US, the hospital administrators would even check the car first if it has a car seat for the baby before letting the precious one go out. Is that true? Anyways, I already bought one for my little angel. I want her to have the best of everything. I purchased this one online though I already saw it at the malls. It was a good thing I did not jump to it right away even though I was really tempted to because my seller gave me a huge discount.
