A Chronicler's Life

Hyperemesis Gravidarum

Posted by Joshua at 7:30 am

Yes, as I have mentioned in my Heads or Tails entry I was hospitalized yet again.
While nausea and vomiting is normal during the first trimester of pregnancy, my case went overboard. Everything that I take in, I would throw up in matter of minutes. I’m vomiting excessively that I’m already dehydrated.
I have been hospitalized because of this.
The diagnosis? Hyperemesis gravidarum

Hyperemesis gravidarum (from Greek hyper and emesis and Latin gravida; meaning “excessive vomiting of pregnant women”) a condition characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and electrolyte disturbance. Mild cases are treated with dietary changes, rest and antacids. More severe cases often require a stay in the hospital so that the mother can receive fluid and nutrition through an intravenous line (IV). (sources: Wikipedia & americanpregnancy.org

I was given with IV fluid and bolus meds because my gut can’t hold anything for more than an hour. I was advised to take complete bedrest to recuperate from the malaise I’m suffering from dehydration. I’m already crossing over to the second trimester of my pregnancy. There are still occasional episodes of nausea and vomiting but these were lessened.

Thank God!

This is just a phase. I know I could get through this.
Joshua is giving strong signs of his desire of being born in this world.
I won’t fail him.
